Temple Isaiah Green Team Presents: Plastic Wars

Sunday, July 25 | 2:00 p.m.

The film, a discussion, and plastic-free products we will give you to evaluate!
Join our Zoom meeting to watch this NPR/Frontline documentary which shows how the plastics industry used recycling to help sell more plastic. The problem is that the recycling plan was never on a solid foundation—only about 9% is now recycled. Some ends up in parts of the ocean which have 40 times more plastic than plankton, and enters our food chain when it is ingested by fish.  After the movie, we are very fortunate to have Amy Hammes, the Recycling Specialist at the Burbank Recycling Center, lead us in a discussion and Q&A session.
Finally, we want your help and participation.  We’ve purchased a number of products which reduce consumption of single use plastics.  We will give you some to try out if you will provide feedback. They include dish soap blocks, dishwashing liquid purchasable in refillable containers, shampoo bars, beeswax wraps, silicone stretchable lids, soda makers, mesh market bags and reusable takeout boxes.
