Day of Learning for Yom HaAtzmaut

Tue, May 14 - 10:00 AM

Come for the day, or for a single session, as we spend Israel Independence Day learning with Isaiah clergy. This year has been complex and heart-wrenching, and together we will explore different facets of our relationship with Israel.

Date: Tuesday, May 14
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Location: Temple Isaiah Social Hall and Zoom

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.: WHAT COMES NEXT? with Rabbi Zoe Klein Miles
What comes next after the war between Israel and Hamas ends? We’ll delve into what different thinkers have proposed, as well as our own opinions.

11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: ZIONISM & ANTI-ZIONISM with Rabbi Dara Frimmer
We will explore the history of these opposing ideas and how they are being used in headlines and discourse today.

12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m.: ISRAELI LUNCH & TABLE TALK

1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.: SONGS OF ISRAEL with Cantor Randall Schloss
The familiar song Yerushalayim Shel Zahav (Jerusalem of Gold) was written just before the Six Day War, with the fourth verse written just after. We will take a deeper look at this and other songs that are bound to Israel, its history and our Jewish lives today.
