Elul Beit Midrash: Why do We Blow the Shofar During Elul?
Why do we blow the shofar during the month of Elul? Is it simply meant to awaken us to thoughts of repentance before the High Holidays? A look back at the first sources where the tradition appears reveals a more complicated story. We will start with a brief introduction, break into hevruta (paired learned), and return for a full discussion. Together we will gain a deeper understanding of the role of the shofar in our teshuvah process.
