Shabbat of Remembrance and Resilience in honor of Kristallnacht and Veteran’s Day

Fri, Nov 07 - 06:15 PM

As we welcome Shabbat, we also open our hearts to remembrance. Two days before Kristallnacht, we will honor the legacy of the Shoah through personal reflections from congregants whose families lived through that history. Together, we will light candles in memory of loved ones and reflect on the lessons of resilience, responsibility, and remembrance. This evening also includes a tribute to our veterans, recognizing their courage and service in the pursuit of peace. We look forward to celebrating Shabbat with you! Please note that an RSVP is required to attend services in person.

After Shabbat services we welcome NIF’s new SoCal regional director Joe Goldman for an Oneg Shabbat conversation about the ways we can continue building towards a “day after” in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and right here at home. NIF grantees have catalyzed mass protests against the Gaza War to free the hostages and surge aid, including ones as large as the equivalent of every Californian taking to American streets. The same groups also led much of the fights against the Judicial Coup, and they offer many lessons about channeling our energies towards upholding the liberal democratic systems both in Israel and America alike that are essential to Jewish safety and wellbeing.

Many American Jews and allies seek meaningful ways to uphold the humanity, dignity, and safety of both Jews and Palestinians. NIF moves beyond slogans and noise to channel resources toward real, values-driven solutions. Please share this invitation with friends and family.

Joe Goldman is NIF’s new SoCal Regional Director. Previously he led community engagement at HIAS, and held roles at MAZON, JCRC Bay Area, and progressive political campaigns. He earned degrees in Political Communication and Political Management from The George Washington University. Recently nominated by Mayor Karen Bass to the West Los Angeles Area Planning Commission, Joe lives in his native Los Angeles with his husband, Adam, and their rescue dog, Nicky.
