Visiting Scholar Rabbi Tamir Nir
We are honored to welcome Rabbi Tamir Nir to our community August 9 – 10.
Rabbi Nir serves as the congregational rabbi for Congregation Achva Bakerem in Jerusalem, which he founded in 2007. Tamir teaches Jewish and Islamic thought in a high school for religious and secular Israelis. Tamir served recently as Deputy Mayor of Jerusalem where he bridged differences between the many diverse communities that make up the city, as the head of the BINA Secular Yeshiva, and as chair of the Heschel Center for Sustainability.
Rabbi Nir is an ordained Reform Rabbi, has an MA in Jewish Education and a BA in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Friday, August 9:
5:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Rabbi Tamir Nir will join our Isaiah & Israel Conversation group to discuss the amazing work his community has been doing to build bridges between communities in Jerusalem.
6:15 pm – 7:15: Rabbi Nir will give a D’var Torah during Shabbat Services
7:30 pm: Rabbi Nir will share his incredible vision for the future, and how he’s built community, resilience and hope through his experience as a Rabbi, teacher, architect and urban planner in Jerusalem. Bring-your-own dinner and enjoy our enhanced oneg.
Saturday, August 10, 10:30 am – 11:30 am:
Rabbi Nir will lead our Torah group, followed by a light shabbat brunch where there will be time for discussion.
