Service followed by Oneg and Panel discussion with leaders from HIAS and CLUE
Please mark your calendar! At our Refugee Shabbat on April 12, you’ll learn from two Southern California leaders, Joe Goldman and Rev. Jennifer Gutierrez, how asylum seekers and refugees can be supported and welcomed as they struggle to make new, productive lives in our community. Joe is the Community Engagement Director for the Western Region of HIAS, an organization founded over one hundred years ago as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and which now provides support and services to refugees, asylum seekers, and other displaced persons from around the world. Rev. Jennifer is the Executive Director of CLUE-LA (Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice), an interfaith organization that supports migrants and low-wage workers. In addition, Rabbi Bob Gan will join us for services to share reflections and to lift up the memory of Rev. Dr. Cecil L. Murray (z’l).
With immigration a more politically contended issue than ever, it’s imperative that we continue seeking out ways to manifest the sacred teaching of our tradition: “You shall love the stranger as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt.”
You must RSVP to attend services in person.
Services will also be streamed to our Vimeo channel, website & Facebook page.
