SUMMARY:Jazz Concert with Eli Howell
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Temple Isaiah to watch rising trombonist\, composer\, and educator Eli Howell arrives on the international jazz scene with his electrifying debut album\, Steps Taken\, scheduled for release on April 3\, 2026. A Los Angeles native and Michigan State University alumnus\, Howell’s artistry was forged through significant adversity\, including a year-long recovery from focal dystonia and a literal tornado that struck his recording studio overnight. These challenges infused the record with a raw\, “all-in-one-room” energy that captures his journey from uncertainty to a renewed joy in playing. The album features a prestigious cast of mentors and Grammy-winning musicians\, including Brian Lynch\, Sharel Cassity\, and Wycliffe Gordon.\n\nFrom reimagined silent-film-era tributes to complex modern arrangements\, the music reflects Howell’s deep roots in the jazz tradition and his research into trombone legends. Ultimately\, Steps Taken stands as a powerful testament to the resilience of a young musician sharpened by hardship and elevated by his community.

SUMMARY:The Kotel Bill and the Vilification of Reform Judaism in Israel
DESCRIPTION:Even as our hearts remain with Israelis seeking cover from incoming rockets\, we are pained and outraged that in this time of war\, extremist MKs are advancing a bill that would grant sole control over the Kotel as a whole – including the egalitarian section – to the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Chief Rabbinate. On March 16\, 2026\, MK Avi Maoz’s bill was sent to the Constitution\, Law and Justice Committee by the Israeli Knesset. The bill could potentially imprison anyone for up to seven years for praying at the Kotel contrary to ultra-Orthodox standards. This bill is a sharp break from the Status Quo at the Kotel\, where egalitarian prayers have been held since the 1970s. Join Rabbi Dara Frimmer and Rabbi Josh Weinberg\, VP for Israel and Reform Zionism and Executive Director of ARZA for this important discussion.
