SUMMARY:Kalaniyot: Planting the Seeds of Hope & Healing
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday morning\, October 6th from 9:30am-12pm\, for a community-wide project centered on the Israeli national flower\, the Kalanit. The red anemone flower grows throughout Israel and appears every winter\, sharing its bright red bloom in a season of austere colors and temperatures. Since October 7\, as kalaniot began to bloom at the site of the Nova Festival\, the flowers have become a new Jewish symbol of hope\, healing\, loss and resilience. \n \nIn solidarity with artists who have honored the victims and survivors of October 7 with beautiful and heartbreaking artwork featuring Kalaniot\, join us at Temple Isaiah for a series of hands-on workshops that will invite our hands\, hearts\, minds and souls to find space for reflection and connection. Flowers may be taken home to add to your own personal acts of remembrance\, and/or may be added to our lobby or sanctuary for Temple Isaiah’s October 7 memorial.

SUMMARY:Coping with Loss
DESCRIPTION:There are many kinds of losses we face\, from the immeasurable loss of a loved one to loss of mobility or acuity\, to countless more ambiguous losses like losing a sense of safety and trust\, losing one’s sense of place in the world\, and relationships changing. This time of year\, during the very reflective High Holy Days\, we are especially attuned to our losses. \nWe will learn coping strategies with Thomas J. Pier\, LCSW\, OSW-c\, CMF\, whose therapy practice focuses on coping with serious and/or chronic illness\, cancer treatment/survivorship\, facing dying authentically while focusing on life & living\, caregiver strain\, living well with grief in the absence of a loved one\, adjusting to new physical or mental health diagnosis\, and navigating uncertainties. \nOur gathering will close with a short ritual preparing us for Yizkor on Yom Kippur.
