456 Retreat Information
We’re excited to announce our annual Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade Retreat. A fantastic weekend of fun and learning, the retreat is (as the name suggests) for students in grades four through six the weekend of Friday, January 25 to Sunday, January 27.
The year, the retreat will be held at Camp Max Straus, located at the base of the Verdugo Mountains near Glendale. The beautiful 112-acre facility, owned and operated by Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles, feature spacious cabins, wooded outdoor spaces, and incredible opportunities for all sorts of amazing activities. (And also: The food is fantastic!)
Both of us — along with members of our clergy and many of our religious school teachers and Rishonim — will spend the weekend at camp relaxing, learning, and celebrating with the students.
In partnership with staff at Camp Max Straus, we’ve created an engaging program that shares Temple Isaiah’s theme for the year: shira, song. The weekend will include archery, astronomy, cooking, a ropes course, a climbing wall, sports, and a festive Shabbat celebration. Because the retreat is an outgrowth of our Jewish studies curriculum and is considered an integral part of our religious school program, all students are expected to attend.
We realize that our students are exceedingly busy. That’s exactly why this retreat is so important. It’s a chance for them to spend Shabbat with their Temple Isaiah family, to relax away from the business of the week, and to take in some fresh air. We hope you and your family will make every effort to ensure your child(ren) can attend.
Students must be registered by Tuesday, January 15, 2013. Forms can be submitted online at templei.wufoo.com/forms/k7w0s1/. Payments may also be made online. Registration after the deadline will require a $35.00 late fee and will be accepted as space permits.
There is an $85, non-refundable registration fee for this retreat. Scholarship is available upon request. Students may also invite a friend from another congregation to join us, even if he/she is not enrolled in our religious school. The cost for a friend to attend is $165 by Tuesday, January 15.
On Friday, January 25, we will meet at the Temple at 3:15pm for check-in. Buses will depart at 3:45pm sharp and will return to Temple Isaiah on Sunday, January 27, at noon.
Please be in touch if we can answer any questions or be of further assistance!
