From Jerusalem, With Love
The smartphone generation may not be so familiar with good ol’ fashioned postcards, but after their “virtual” trip to Jerusalem, Rina’s sixth graders took to postcard communication like fish to water (or… hummus to falafel?).
Using our school set of iPads for both research and creation of their postcards, the children took charge of their learning. I believe their learning became more meaningful because they served both as researchers and teachers to each other. As with our previous forays into using these digital tools in the classroom, the introduction of cutting edge technology has increased involvement with class material and pride in the product produced. The kids are tech- and media-savvy and they appreciate education that meets them on their level and makes Jewish learning relevant in their lives.
