TSBY Donates to SOVA

by Tiyul: Shabbat B'yachad

Over the past few months, each of the TSBY seventh graders have been working individually to collect cans and non-perishable foods for SOVA as a part of their group mitzvah project. The focus of their mitzvah project is learning about and working to reduce hunger both locally and globally. Temple member and long time SOVA volunteer, Michel Hirshfeld, came to speak with our seventh graders about how hunger affects people here in Los Angeles and what foods are most important for people who are hungry to receive.

This past Saturday, our seventh graders collected many of their donations. Together, they had collected over 500 items to donate to SOVA. Scroll down to see all that they collected!

“SOVA” is a Hebrew word that means “eat and be satisfied.” Much more than a food pantry, JFS { SOVA provides free groceries and an array of supportive services to nearly 12,000 individuals of all ages, ethnicities and religions each month.
